4 Things That Moped Insurance Will Cover

If you have a moped or a scooter, you will want to carry insurance on it. Your moped may not have the speed of a traditional motorcycle, but it is still a motor vehicle, which is why you are going to want to carry insurance on it. You can still hit fast speeds, and you want to protect yourself with the right insurance.

1. Liability

The first thing that your moped insurance will cover is liability. In many states, you are required to carry liability insurance. With liability insurance, if you hit another vehicle with your moped, your provider will cover the cost of fixing up their vehicle. If you are involved in an accident where someone is hurt, your insurance will pay their medical bills.

Without liability insurance, the injured party could sue you and come after your assets. Your other assets, such as your home, other vehicles, and savings, are protected with insurance. Without insurance, your other assets could be seized to pay a judgment against you.

With bodily injury and property damage liability, you will be protected.

2. Carried Contents and Belongings

With a moped, you probably carry a few things with you. Perhaps you are carrying your backpack with your computer, or maybe you use the storage on the vehicle to carry items home from the store. If something you are carrying is lost, stolen, or damaged, you can use your moped insurance to file a claim and get the cost to replace those items reimbursed.

3. Medical Payments

On a moped or scooter, you are exposed. If you get into an accident, even if you are wearing a helmet, there is a good chance that you will get injured. When you get injured, your medical bills will be paid with medical payment coverage on your policy. You will not have to pay out of your own pocket or use your health insurance for your medical bills. Medical payments will also cover the costs of any bills that a passenger who is riding along with you incurs during an accident.

4. Collision and Comprehensive

Just like with a car or truck, you can also carry either collision or comprehensive insurance, or you can carry both. Collision insurance will give you the money to fix your moped if it is damaged in an accident. Comprehensive will pay to fix your moped if it is damaged due to some other event, like a fire or theft. If you carry a loan on your moped or don't have the cash to fix it up if it were damaged, it is wise to carry this type of coverage.

If you have a moped or scooter, be sure that you are carrying at least liability insurance, and see about adding medical payments, collision and comprehensive coverage, as well as carried content and belongings to your policy.
